How to hold a shinai/bokken
correctly
1) Body Position
The spine is perpendicular to the floor; you pull the chin in slightly
and extend the neck like you
are pulled by the top of the head. The
center of gravity should be centered between both feet. Tighten
very lightly the left arm
like you hold a piece of paper under your left arm and tighten the right arm
like you hold an egg. So if you tighten
strongly, you will break the egg. But,
if you do not tighten enough, the egg will be fallen. You have to relax your arms but tighten
enough to keep the egg and a piece of paper. The kensen (the point of shinai or
bokken) points the throat of the opponent.
